EXPLORING MELBOURNE…AN INTERIOR DESIGNER & STYLIST GUIDE

As an interior designer and interior stylist my work takes me all over my hometown of Melbourne, Melbourne is such a beautiful city and is filled with so much to see and do. Today I would like to share my five favourite things to do in Melbourne through the eyes of an interior designer and interior stylist.

ONE: TAKE A WALK

I always say the best way to see a place is by walking and exploring Melbourne is no different! From downtown to the beautiful landscaped parks on the city fringe to the bay that Melbourne hugs and all of the suburbs in-between Melbourne is a great city to walk! My favourite places to explore are Collins Street in the buzzing heart of the city, where all the world’s greatest fashion brands call home and the streets of East Melbourne and Carlton, that are filled with stunning architecture and beautifully landscaped parks.

TWO: THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Australia is well known for its dramatic landscapes, so its no wonder that exploring the outdoors around Melbourne is going to be filled with inspiration! Melbourne has so many great places to explore, from the top of Mt Dandenong with amazing city views and lush fern filled rainforests to Port Phillip Bay with its sandy beaches and little penguins to the gumtree lined banks of the Yarra River winding its way through the suburbs carving its way through the city.

THREE: HISTORY LESSON

Melbourne has a fascinating History, from once binging one of the riches cities on earth, to today being the world’s most liveable modern city. From its ancient indigenous history to the modern you can find Melbourne’s history everywhere, from grand city buildings open to explore to more intermate explorations through walks through city landmarks, start at the Old Treasury Building and make your way to the banks of the Yarra River and explore the indigenous history at Birrarung Marr.

FOUR: CREATIVE PLACES

Melbourne is filled with amazing galleries and public spaces open for everyone to explore and enjoy! My favourite places to visit are the National Gallery of Victoria, with a collection from ancient Aboriginal art to the world’s great masters and todays modern leaders you can find it all, Heide Gallery is a fantastic gallery filled with Melbourne icons of art and design set in a beautiful landscape, ACMI explores all things the moving image, from movies and games to today’s modern digital creations and lastly the streets of the city centre are filled with sculptures from the iconic The Public Purse on the corner of Bourke St and Elizabeth St too the comical The three business men who brought their own lunch on the corner of Swanston St and Bourke St.

FIVE: PERSONAL STYLE

The best thing about Melbourne is that you can create a tour that can absolutely reflect your own personal style! It doesn’t matter what your tastes are Melbourne has something to offer you, from old and new, local and international Melbourne is brimming with what ever you can imagine!
