As much as I love hopping on an aeroplane and exploring another city or country, for me there is nothing quite as refreshing as a day trip exploring places a little closer to home. Melbourne has so may fantastic places to visit within only a few hours’ drive or even less! I always come home inspired, here are a few of my favourite places to explore!
Gippsland
This is my number one because I have a very special place heart for Gippsland, I spent much of my childhood and youth in Gippsland and it has been home to my family for many generations! From the rolling hills and quaint towns of South Gippsland to the rugged Mountains around Mt Baw Baw and the endless sandy beaches of East Gippsland, it is definitely one of Australia’s best kept secrets and absolutely worth a visit!
Ballarat and Bendigo
These two cities were transformed from dusty towns to the heart of Australia during the gold rush days, with their wide streets and beautiful historical buildings and parks you can get lost exploring galleries, nearby towns and tasting some of the most amazing cuisine in regional Victoria!
A little closer to home…
If you don’t have hours to spare it is always possible to have a day trip a little closer to home! I love the streets of Williamstown with its historical buildings and tree lined streets and the Dandenong Ranges are a fantastic place filled with beautiful little towns, fantastic places to eat and amazing gardens to explore!
So the next time your wondering what to do or your in need of a little inspiration think a little closer to home, explore your own city or venture a little further and I promise you will discover places that you never knew existed and come home inspired and itching for your next adventure!
