Creating a home that is filled with soul is perhaps the most important element of interior design to me, a home that lacks soul feels empty and a little cold. The strangest thing is that adding and bringing out the soul in your home is the easiest thing! It has nothing to do with how big or how expensive things are, it has everything to do with your personal style and your own personal taste.
To me your home is the most intermate representation of you, more intimate then the clothes you wear, only your closest friends and family see inside your home and when you think about this you are sharing a little bit more of the you then you share with the rest of the world!
So how and where do you find and create soul?
It doesn’t matter what style of interior you like, minimalism or maximalism can both be filled with soul. The fist steep in creating an interior filled with soul is by buying what you love, taste has nothing to do with this, but I would definitely encourage you to explore and learn a little about the things that you love, perhaps step back and ask; why do I like this? When you take a good look, you might just like the shape or colour, but really nothing else about something. Learn from this, as the right pieces will come along, you don’t what to end up with a home filled with pieces that you kind of like or did like!
In bringing your interior together and bring out its soul, I believe that the most important thing in doing this is curation. Give everything some space, find a common thread and don’t be afraid to experiment! This is perhaps one of the hardest parts, over many years working as an interior designer and interior stylist seeing a way to bring together and resolve a space to bring out its soul is a little more of an art then a science, this is definitely something having a guiding hand makes easier, after all having collected pieces that you love and want to live with every day, then having them hidden away because you don’t know how to place them makes no sense to me! You should live with what you love every day!
