It is funny how somethings just make their way into your life, from friends to new places too new inspirations and collections. I often find myself remembering that first encounter when I meet someone or found that beautiful piece that got me dreaming about the next find!
This is how my collection of Wedgwood moonstone ceramics started many many years ago. I was visiting a junk shop and I spotted a white ceramic piece hidden on a bottom shelf, with its soft matt finish, its small shell shaped handles and its beautifully fluted bowl and trumpet shaped top sitting on top of a sturdy but beautiful foot. It was covered in dust and grime and had a few little chips, but more than anything it looked as though it had been loved and used for many years.
That was my first piece of moonstone and it started my hunt, it was also my first piece of Wedgwood which started a little bit of an obsession, from Jasperware and fine bone china and everything in-between!
My collection has been steadily growing and I have found pieces everywhere from country towns and op-shops to markets in London and Paris!
One of the most special things about a collection are the memories of each piece and the stories of their discovery and then the story of their life with you. You can’t buy those experiences or those special memories, that is what I love about collecting beautiful things.
So, if you’re feeling the need for a new piece for a spot in your home why not search for something a little more personal than the mass produced, a piece with a story and something that you won’t find in your friends homes. Create memories with the objects in your life and they will be loved and cherished for many many years to come!
